Roo is a wonderfully creative 2 y/o Australian Cattle Dog mix. While we believe her to be mostly ACD, we are unsure of her other breed elements. A vet once said it looked like she might be part Border Collie; do with that what you will.
When we decided to add a second dog to our household, we looked up local pounds and brought Ratchet along on our journey. It was crucial that he clicked with a future pack member.
The first couple of places that we looked at didn’t work out, but then we went to the Fauquier SPCA. That’s where we found Roo, who was roughly 6 months old at the time. She was very nervous, but also extremely lovable. We adopted her that day and brought her home a week later, after she was spayed and treated for fleas.
Her and Ratchet became the best of friends from day one. Though she steals his toys and tries to herd him from room to room, he always tolerates her and tries to keep up with her level of energy.
She still remains anxious at times, sticking true to ACD traits with her wariness of strangers and “Velcro dog” tactics. Unlike her brother, she doesn’t require a leash at all times when on a walk — she will always stick close to mom and dad.
Roo truly changed life around here for the better, drastically improving the ebb-and-flow of our relationship with Ratchet. For that, we are eternally grr-ateful.
Be on the lookout, as Roo will occasionally post entries in her native Australian dialect.
